The Olomouc Rosarium, a jewel of horticulture in the heart of Moravia, invites everyone once again to a unique event – the Rose Confession 2025 festival and exhibition, taking place on 7–8 June 2025. This year’s edition is aptly subtitled “100 let českých růží” (“100 Years of Czech Roses”) as we commemorate the centenary of the breeding of the first Czech climbing rose, Máňa Böhmová. This event is not just a nod to history and tradition but a vibrant family festival full of fragrance, color, and emotion.
A Blooming History – 100 Years of Czech Roses
The “Rose Confession” festival pays homage to beauty rooted in passion. One pioneer was Jan Böhm, a trailblazer in Czech rose breeding, whose contributions will be honored through a special museum exhibition. Visitors can see original artifacts from his life and work – medals, account books, plant name tags, and of course, his iconic rose varieties.
The exhibition is curated in cooperation with the Blatná Town Museum and the Růže Blatná Association and will appeal to gardeners as well as enthusiasts of horticultural history and culture.
The Hana Maciuchová Rose
One of the festival’s most moving moments will be the official naming of a new cultivar, Hana Maciuchová, in honor of the renowned Czech actress. This climbing rose, with full, yellow, intensely fragrant blooms, is a mutation of the popular Westerland variety, bred by Czech horticulturist Marie Látová, who will personally introduce her creation.
The rose naming ceremony will take place on Saturday, 7 June, at 10:00, accompanied by a vocal performance by Dagmar Zázvůrková, an actress and singer. This event will be a floral rite and a symbolic bridge between art, nature, and memory.
A Rosarium with World-Class Recognition
The Olomouc Rosarium has every reason to be proud - it has been honored with the prestigious Award of Garden Excellence from the World Federation of Rose Societies (WFRS). It is now among the top ten rosaria globally recognized in each cycle.
This title not only elevates the garden itself but also promotes Czech horticulture internationally. During the festival, visitors can watch a specially prepared film about the rosarium and gain insight into the award's selection process.
Floral Extravaganza by Jaromír Kokeš – Master of Masters
A festival highlight will be a floral show by Jaromír Kokeš, a legend in Czech floristry. Kokeš, a multiple Czech Floristry Champion, has represented his country in major international contests, earning acclaim from juries and audiences alike. His style is defined by precision, creativity, and deep respect for nature, with each arrangement showcasing technical skill and artistic vision.
During his show, visitors will witness the creation of spectacular floral installations, surprising in scale and originality. His performances are true spectacles that inspire both professionals and amateurs.
